Finance Wales appoints Jerry Mobbs to strengthen its portfolio management team

Finance Wales has appointed Jerry Mobbs, a specialist in investing in small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs), as Deputy Portfolio Manager. He joins Finance Wales’ seven-strong portfolio management team.

Mobbs will use his extensive venture capital investment, fund management and industry experience to work with Finance Wales’ growing portfolio of investee businesses, helping them secure follow-on investment.

Commenting on the appointment, Finance Wales’ Investment Director, Peter Wright said: “I am delighted with Jerry’s appointment. He has a strong track record of investing in - and working with – UK-based SMEs to maximise both company and investment exit value. Jerry is experienced in helping SMEs make the most of the investment they secure.

“Jerry joins Finance Wales at an important time. We invested a record £37 million in SMEs in 2009 – 10. His SME investment experience will considerably strengthen our portfolio management team.”

Mobbs joins Finance Wales after nine years at Alliance Fund Managers Ltd, the management company responsible for the MSIF Venture Capital fund.

St Asaph-based Mobbs is pleased to be joining Finance Wales: “I’m pleased to join Finance Wales at a time when its portfolio is growing as it invests in more and more businesses. I’m keen to use my investment experience and expertise to help businesses maximise the potential of our investments and ensure Finance Wales builds a strong portfolio.”

Finance Wales invested a record £37 million in Wales-based businesses during 2009 -10, through 246 equity and debt investments during the year.

Finance Wales provides commercial funding to small and medium-sized businesses throughout Wales and to date it has invested over £157 million through more than 2,400 investments.
